CQC & care homes

Our Care

Providing exceptional standards of care is extremely important to us.  Trained care assistants work with the Registered Manager of Care, placing residents at the heart of our service.  They provide 24 hour support according to each resident’s individual care plan, which we regularly monitor and update.  The care provided can include assistance with personal hygiene, bathing, washing, dressing and feeding.  Residents also have access to a GP, district nurses and a chiropodist.

“Burn Brae Lodge has a very happy, friendly and caring feeling when you visit.  The staff are always helpful and pleasant. Many of the staff have been there a long time which adds to the family atmosphere.”

Accommodation

We aim to create a homely environment at Burn Brae Lodge both through the décor and surroundings and, more importantly, through a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.  The accommodation is on two floors, the lift makes both floors accessible to wheelchair users and those with limited mobility.  There are lounge and dining areas for residents and other seating areas throughout the home.

We have 31 bedrooms all are individual and some have en-suite facilities. Bedrooms have television aerial point, thermostatic radiators and a 24-hour call system.  We also encourage residents to personalise their rooms with their own belongings and furniture.  For couples or friends both needing care we can offer double and twin suites.  All rooms enjoy a variety of views, either over the Tyne Valley and Corbridge or of the woods to the rear.

There are seating areas in the garden and residents can enjoy a stroll through the garden.

We have access to specialised transport for outings, shopping and associated trips. We also use cars for smaller outings. Transport is available to bring visitors to the home from the local area including the railway station and bus stop.

Food

We recognise that food is not only important for good health, but that mealtimes are an important part of the social fabric of our home.

We want residents to enjoy their food, so we pay attention to the quality of ingredients and balanced menus. We respect individual preferences – be it a special marmalade or the way eggs are cooked, whatever is needed we’ll always give choice.  We support local businesses when buying food and these special relationships have been developed over many years.

We celebrate special occasions with special meals and relatives are invited to join us.  Our annual BBQ is an event that residents, family and friends always look forward to – especially to see the family cooking!

Delivering needs

We recognise and value all our employees and understand that if they are happy they will deliver the best quality of care to our residents and that is our focus.  We also make a commitment to them to have;

  • The right number people with the right mix of skills to meet residents’ needs

  • Employees with qualifications or working towards qualifications in health and social care

  • Recruitment and selection that both respect equal opportunities and protect residents’ safety and welfare

  • Further training available which is relevant to employees needs

Everyone understands our philosophy:

Focus on Residents - We want everything we do in the home to be driven by the needs, abilities and aspirations of the residents and not by what staff, management or any other group would desire. We recognise how easily this focus can slip and we will remain vigilant to ensure that the facilities, resources, policies, activities and services of the home remain resident led.

Fitness for Purpose - We are committed to achieving our stated aims and objectives and we welcome  feedback from residents and their friends and relatives and act on this.

Comprehensiveness - We aim to provide a total range of care, in collaboration with all appropriate agencies, to meet the overall personal and health care needs and preferences of the residents.

Meeting Assessed Needs - The care we provide is based on the thorough assessment of needs and the systematic and continuous planning of care for each resident.

Quality Services - We are aiming for a progressive improvement in our standards.
